Pediatricians and general practitioners are often the first to suspect a rare disease when symptoms in their patients do not fit a familiar pattern. They are aware of the urgency of an early diagnosis – but many feel insufficiently informed about the diagnostics and therapy of rare diseases. In studies, a large proportion report not being able to confidently guide patients through the complex healthcare system. They wish for more information and concrete support in handling rare diseases.

This is where the industry-independent training series “Rare Diseases in Practice” comes in, developed and funded by the Eva Luise and Horst Köhler Foundation for People with Rare Diseases: In CME-accredited 90-minute live seminars and 45-minute on-demand modules, leading experts provide hands-on essential knowledge on care structures, diagnostic and treatment processes for rare diseases. Take advantage of this practice-oriented offer to acquire well-founded knowledge, identify “red flags,” and increase your confidence in managing rare diseases.

The kick-off event of the training series will take place on Rare Disease Day, February 28, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM as a 90-minute interactive live webinar on the STREAMED UP video platform. The offer is aimed at physicians, as well as laboratory medicine specialists.

Under the topic “When Diagnoses Are Unclear or Rare: Insights and Solutions for Practice,” the following will discuss:

  • Prof. Dr. Annette Grüters-Kieslich, Chairwoman of the Board of the Eva Luise and Horst Köhler Foundation: “How do I care for people with rare or unclear diseases?”
  • Prof. Dr. Martin Mücke, Director of the Institute for Digital General Medicine at University Hospital Aachen: “Short Paths to Diagnosis: Rare Diseases in General Practice”
