The neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (NCL) are the most common forms of neurodegenerative diseases in childhood and adolescence. NCL is also referred to as “childhood dementia,” as dementia – along with epilepsy, and loss of vision and motor control – is a symptom of the disease.
In this training, NCL specialist Dr. med. Angela Schulz from UKE Hamburg-Eppendorf provides an overview of the various NCL forms and presents the clinical appearance as well as the characteristic progression. In addition, diagnostic and therapeutic options are highlighted.
